You’ll find plenty of opportunities to cast your line in and around League City. From the banks of Clear Creek and ponds scattered throughout local parks, to the open waters of Clear Lake and Galveston Bay, the fish are biting. Grab your tackle, bait your hook, and start reeling them in.

Clear Creek runs along the northern border of League City, and provides recreational opportunities including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and more. The Clear Creek Paddle Trail meanders 6.5 miles through Clear Creek, starting at Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside and ending at Heritage Park. Paddlers will enjoy scenic views along their journey, and may spot some of the wildlife that live in and around the creek, including wading birds, alligators, and deer.

Just south of League City is the island of Galveston. Thousands of visitors head to this coastal oasis every year to enjoy swimming in the Gulf waters, fishing, sailing, and more. With 32 miles of coastline, there are plenty of beaches to explore. Parking along the seawall is inexpensive, and provides easy beach access. Keep your eyes out for dolphins, who are often seen playing in the water. Dolphin cruises are also available, and often provide fascinating facts about the island.

The Galveston Bay system consists of for main sub-bays: Galveston Bay proper, Trinity Bay, East Bay, and West Bay and covers approximately 600 square miles. This unique and complex mixing of waters from different sources provides a nursery and spawning grounds for many types of marine life including crabs, shrimp, oysters, and many varieties of fish. Galveston Bay produces more seafood than any bay in the nation except the Chesapeake.

Clear Lake is a 2.5 mile, brackish water lake that empties into the west side of Galveston Bay before opening up to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The calm waters surrounded by residential and commercial development has contributed to the area having one of the largest concentrations of recreational boats and marinas in the United States. Boat rentals, charter services, sailing, dinner cruises and other water activities are available.
