Texas is known for its globally unique ecosystem with a diversity of habitats and wildlife. Gulf Coast habitats, like the ones in League City, are essential to the annual cycles of many species of breeding, wintering, and migrating waterfowl, wading birds, shorebirds, and songbirds. Thanks to an extensive network of nature and birding trails blanketing the entire state, residents and visitors seeking authentic wildlife experiences have plenty of options.

The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail
The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail is a system of trails, bird sanctuaries, and nature preserves stretching 500 miles across Texas. Made up of 43 trails and 308 birding sites, these state-designated areas offer some of the best birdwatching in the world. League City is situated on the Upper Texas Coast region of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. This region consists of 15 birding-trail “loops” in hotspots throughout Bay Area Houston, Galveston, High Island, Bolivar Peninsula, Anahuac, Beaumont, and extending all the way to the Louisiana border.

Birding the Clear Lake Loop
The Clear Lake Loop portion of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail includes several birding hotspots in League City, with more than a dozen total locations, all within minutes of each other. Sightings can range from 150–250 species.
