Discover League City's Charming Historic District at the New Visitor Center & Café

League City, Texas - Nestled in the heart of League City's Historic District, the city proudly announces the opening of its first-ever Visitor Center and Café. Housed in the historic Station Masters House in League Park, this charming space is set to celebrate its Grand Opening on November 25, 2023, at 9 a.m., coinciding with the kickoff of League City's annual Nutcracker in the Park holiday market.

A Journey Through History: The Station Master's House

Built in the late 1800s, the Station Masters House has stood as a testament to League City's rich history for over a century. Originally serving as the living quarters for the Station Master of the Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad, this eligible National Register of Historic Places property played a crucial role in connecting Galveston to the Texas mainland. For the past two decades, the home served as office space for League City Parks Department staff, but now, it is ready to welcome locals and visitors alike.

All Aboard the Soulfreak Railroad Café

Inside the historic home, guests will not only find the warm embrace of history but also the delightful aromas of Soulfreak Railroad Café. Offering a delectable menu of food and coffee, the café invites visitors to enjoy a cozy atmosphere while perusing souvenirs and brochures. The new location aims to recreate the bustling town center atmosphere, making it the perfect place for first impressions of League City.

Exploring the Historic District: A New Guide

Stephanie Polk, Manager of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, expresses excitement about the Visitor Center's role in providing a proper introduction to the Historic District. Polk shares, "This location used to be a bustling town center where people would arrive and immediately be immersed in the heart of League City. We are excited that once again, this is where first impressions will be made."

The Visitor Center offers more than just a warm welcome; it provides the perfect starting point to explore League City's treasures. Guests can place orders at the café, shop for souvenirs, browse brochures, and even participate in scheduled activities. The café plans to host live music nights, movie nights in the park, art classes, and more. Additionally, the Visitor Center will soon unveil a brand-new printed guide to the Historic District, complemented by an interactive digital experience.

Funding and Location Information

Funding for this exciting addition to League City comes from the League City Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT), a special revenue fund restricted by state law. The 7% HOT Tax collected from visitors staying in city hotels and short-term rentals contributes to destination marketing and League City's tourism initiatives.
