Meet Miss John Wayne

Visit the Butler Longhorn Museum—both fascinating and distinctly Texan—to get face to face with one of the world’s most famous longhorns: Miss John Wayne.

This longhorn was once part of the Butler herd here in League City, and prized for her iconic double-twist horn shape. But it’s her connection to her movie star namesake that’s her biggest claim to fame. Miss John Wayne was gifted to actor John Wayne by Milby Butler, the creator of the Butler Longhorn breed. The two were friends, and Miss John Wayne actually played a role in Wayne’s film, The Alamo. Wayne was also said to have modeled his onscreen cowboy persona after Milby Butler.

Learn more about Texas history, see the world’s largest collection of longhorn skulls, and discover how the longhorn cattle breed was saved from extinction at the Butler Longhorn Museum.

It doesn’t get much more Texan than longhorn cattle, old John Wayne movies, and the Alamo. Be sure to add the Butler Longhorn Museum to your “Texas To-Do” list!
